How to Always Get a Discount on HSP Courses (7 Easy Ways)

My earliest memory of bargains and discounts is one uncomfortable shopping trip for Christmas outfits. Every year, my parents would take us on a two-hour ride to get new clothes and shoes to celebrate the holiday.

My mum was always in charge of all the shopping, while dad used the waiting time to catch up with his brother. It was an unspoken understanding, and while exhausting, she preferred it that way.

We didn’t understand the dynamic, and honestly, I doubt we even cared. Until the day my dad decided to join us and couldn’t stop asking for maximum discounts.

Shopping took longer than usual. My mum’s feet got swollen from walking too much. She turned red with anger. And we became too hungry to be excited about the new stuff.

Only my dad spoke in that car on the way back – telling us why we should always get a discount on products.

I don’t remember what happened after that or what conversation transpired. But he never joined us again for the shopping part of our holiday tradition. Mum took back control, and everything was back to normal.

If you have lived in or experienced a haggling culture, you know asking for a discount is often an unspoken expectation. Many sellers will even price items higher to leave room for bargaining.

But getting a good deal on a product you love shouldn’t be so strenuous that you don’t enjoy it.

In this post, explore seven easy ways to get a discount on HSP courses, coaching, and other resources.

How to Get a Discount on HSP Courses

There are so many online courses today, making the selection process difficult. These courses focus on solving different problems for various audiences and vary in price.

This post is about courses created for Highly Sensitive People and available in the HSP Tools directory. You can replicate the tips below for other online programs, but we can’t guarantee a similar outcome.

Here are the seven easy ways to get a discount on HSP courses, coaching and other resources.

1. Enrol Early in the Application Window

Many HSP courses and coaching programs with a preset start date offer discounts on early registrations.

This pricing model means that the earlier you join a program, the cheaper your total cost will be. It’s a way for practitioners to guarantee sales for their products and services while allowing consumers to save.

For instance:

  • This 3-month certification program for HSP practitioners starts in May 2025. If you enrolled before the end of last year, you got a 20% early bird discount.
  • This Growing Sensitive & Strong group coaching program always opens with early-bird pricing before transitioning to regular price.

2. Subscribe to a Practitioner’s Newsletter

Many business owners use newsletters to connect with their followers, readers, and clients. It’s the best way to keep an engaged audience, develop a loyal community, and stay in touch with potential customers.

To say thank you and also make a sale, practitioners occasionally send exclusive offers to their email subscribers.

These could include a free consultation, a free copy of an upcoming book, or reduced prices on their products and services.

For instance:

  • When opening registration for her HSP Discussion Groups, Dr. Jadzia Jagiellowicz always gives a discount to newsletter subscribers.
  • Cheri Gregory, who champions February 1st as the official HSP New Year, uses email to announce registration for her membership community.
  • Julie Bjelland, creator of the Sensitive Empowerment Community, offers email subscribers a random 75% discount.

There are more examples, of course. Stay subscribed to us to get notified🙂.

3. Stay On the Lookout for Available Discounts

Sometimes, HSP resource creators offer a random discount just because they can, to increase sales or another reason best known to them.

This sale will be prominent on their website as a popup or top bar announcement. It will also be in the pricing section on the course’s landing page, and you might need to scroll down slowly to see it.

If you know of a practitioner offering a course you would like to take, see if discounts are available on their website. You might find offers for first-time clients or random sales you know nothing about.

For instance:

  • If you visit Julie Bjelland’s website today, you’ll see the 60% discount as a popup on the course pages only. It’s no longer on the homepage.

4. Apply for Open Scholarships

Many course creators and HSP practitioners provide this option with every program, but only a few people utilize it.

The reason for this could be the placement of scholarship notices on the course landing page (it is never prominent). Or it could be the stigma surrounding needing help.

I don’t claim to know why many people don’t apply for online course scholarships (myself included), but they exist in most cases.

Here are two examples:

5. Plan Your Enrolment around a Holiday

To get a discount on HSP courses during a holiday doesn’t mean waiting until November for Black Friday or end-of-year deals. While this is a good idea, it’s not the only option.

Think of the practitioner’s birthday or business anniversary. Think of awareness days or months like World Social Work Day or Mental Health Awareness Month.

Many course creators and HSP practitioners will announce limited-time offers around these special holidays.

For instance:

  • To celebrate 5 years of Are You Highly Sensitive (AYHS), Alane Freund, LMFT, offered one month of free access to all community resources.
  • To celebrate the Fall season, April Snow, LMFT announced a 25% discount on all Sensitive School courses and 10% off consultation.

There are more examples, of course. But you get the idea.

6. Contact the Course Instructor for a Discount

When you can’t find a discount through all the five ways above, another method is to reach out to the practitioner or HSP course instructor.

This option will work best if you know the ins and outs of the program and are sure you want to commit.

Some facilitators will let you know on the course page that they’re open to a reduced price and give their contact information for further discussion.

Others will offer a free introductory call to explore course elements and ask questions. During your conversation, you can ask for available discounts.

Here are some examples:

  • This HSP course for grandparents on Eurythmy4you (listed 2nd) doesn’t offer a discount. However, the instructors communicate that a lower price is possible and include a link to contact them.
  • Willow McIntosh, founder of Inluminance and creator of The High Sensory Coaching program, has offered discounts before. But because there are no current offers, you can book a free discovery call and request one. There’s no guarantee, but it’s worth trying.

7. Take a Free Masterclass

I saved this for last, not because it’s the least best way to get a discount, but because it’s the most effective.

We all know that many free webinars, workshops, and similar events are a pathway to an online course, coaching membership, or another product or service.

However, it’s also an effective way for you (the Highly Sensitive buyer) to assess the practitioner’s teaching style and value proposition. If you enjoy their masterclass, there’s a chance you will love their program.

And because there’s almost always a special discount for class attendees, you save money.

Here are some free masterclasses that lead to HSP courses & coaching programs:

  • These six webinars by Julie Bjelland, LMFT: Choose the one that addresses your current need, then grow from there.
  • This 60-minute masterclass with Willow McIntosh: Take this class if you want a career as an HSP coach, facilitator or healer.
  • This 3-part audio series by Dr. Michaela Dunbar: Take this if you’re a Highly Sensitive, ambitious woman wanting to overcome high-functioning anxiety.

And many more.

I could continue adding examples to the list, but this post is getting too long. So, I’ll stop here and believe it’s sufficient.

P.S. If my childhood story left you wondering if my mum ever asked for a discount, she always did. But it was never to the extreme levels of her spouse.
